CVAP Day 2: Voice Lessons Time

Despite the struggle with juggling between night shift work and finishing multiple assignments from

our Day One Zoom meeting, I was able to finish everything before the start of our Day Two of the

 CVAP Program.

Whew! I survived...for now.

At the start of our program, we had two CVAP alumni as guests who talked about how CVAP changed

 their lives.

First, they introduced us to Mr. Magic - Mac Florendo.

Now, you might be wondering why he's Mr. Magic. That's because he's a magician, and playing cards

are his specialty. Nag-sample pa yan sa amin ng mala-David Blaine or Criss Angel na card trick, and

we're all like WHAT THE FUDGE?! HOW DID HE DO THAT?

Anyways, he talked about how joining the program boosted his confidence, and how the power of a

voice can influence relationships. He also taught us that we should gain wealth - the wealth of having

friends, and creating connections.

The next speaker was no other than one of our hosts of the program - The Rich Voice: Richard

 Abalos.

Did you know? Magkasingtangkad lang kami ni Sir Rich! Parehas kaming six footer...sa Zoom

meetings. He talked about his struggles of finding his true happiness and purpose in life, and how

CVAP helped him find those. I can relate to him to his struggles. I, too, am struggling, and lost in

finding true happiness and purpose in life. I pray that one day, I can also find what I'm seeking through

CVAP.

After their talk, we proceeded to learn some voice myths.

VOICE MYTHS

Myth 1

I can imitate voices, thus making me a a great voice artist

- You may have the ability to imitate voices of Mickey Mouse and other characters, but so are hundreds

or thousands of other people in the world. People want to hear YOUR voice!

Myth 2

All I need to do is just read the script and talk

- You did well in pronouncing every word in the script, but do those words contain emotions that will

truly capture your listeners?

Myth 3

I don't need training and certification. I have a good voice so I can become a voice actor

- Training is always essential. Voice acting is an art and a skill that you will always need to hone.

Myth 4

Voice acting as a means to make money

- It's not wrong to earn money through voice acting, but it should never be your main motivator on why

you're doing this.

We also learned voice acting requirements, important tips on developing our voices, etc. but the most

important for me that we learned this day is proper voice care.

Proper Voice Care

Syempre! Kelangan nating alagaan ang boses natin. Kaya nga nandito tayo eh. Essential ito sa lahat ng

voice artist.

1. Drink plenty of water - 16 glasses a day

2. Avoid food and drinks that are harmful to your voice - caffeine, sweets and dairy,

cold food and drinks (avoid within 2 hours of doing dubbing or VO work) , spicy foods, alcoholic

 drinks, lozenges

3. Voice rest

4. Proper posture

5. Proper breathing

6. Don't shout nor whisper

7. Warm up

8. Salt water gargle

9. Avoid pollutants

10 Consult a doctor for a persistent cough, sore throat or other similar conditions
